Masterclass - Appetite for Change – a programme for Head Teachers dealing with change within the School Environment

“People change because they are shown a truth that influences their feelings not because they were given endless amounts of logical data.”

John Kotter

It has always been my view that when you have a good head teacher in education you have a great leader, communicator and motivator who is able to inspire all to produce extra ordinary results

“Appetite for Change” was  a programme designed for Secondary and Primary School  Head Teachers to fall in line with Curriculum for Excellence which  has been designed  to achieve a transformation in education in Scotland by providing a coherent, more flexible and enriched curriculum from 3 to 18.

Together we worked on:

  • The 7 key skills needed in a good team mix
    • Strong Leadership
    • Get the job done
    • Well connected
    • Good Communicator
    • Analytical
    • Reflective and creative
    • Trusted – by the masses
  • Reflecting on how this fits with the current team delivering the change for Curriculum for Excellence in their school
  • Introduction of John Kotter’s 8 Steps Change and reflection on where their own school is
  • Examining  of Head Teachers unconscious drivers and what role they  played in individual leadership styles
  • Performance management through a  graphic display of performance and potential
  • Succession planning for rising talent within the school staff

“Many thanks for the stimulating and thought-provoking workshop this morning which has renewed my appetite and which kept me very engaged throughout.”

Dave Edwards Head Teacher  Davidson’s Mains Primary School

“A big thank you from my Depute Head Teacher at Broughton High School and me. It is always good to revisit and realign leadership skills  and yesterday morning not only did you reawaken my approach I’ve been developing but recharged my batteries to lead the staff, pupils and parents  forward in the complex and difficult changes ahead.”
